Turning moments and feeling into a piece of art
Sometimes all you need is a book, a piece of paper and a pen(cil). Oh! And Taylor's songs, always.
Hello 👋 I’m Candela Niesl and this is #8 of “100 Words Voyage”; a newsletter about writing, prompts, life, challenges and how to plan your next piece of art.
Every weekend, I aim to share with you a piece of myself and invite you to write your 100 words. Are you ready to go on this journey? Let’s do it!
My top 3 (not so) unexpected events of the week:
💡 My YLAI Innovators 2021 experience came to its end. It was *I’m overwhelmed by positive adjectives here* journey and I hope I can visit Charlotte. It's a city in North Carolina I didn't even know it existed, and now is on my top 3 cities to visit in the US.
💪 I began doing exercise (again). After having COVID-19 it was really difficult for me to go back to my routine. I tried it though, 3 days ago, my body still hurts, I didn't know I have those muscles there, and my breath escaped my lungs... still, it was so worth it.
💌 I'm building a new game for my BFF Instagram list, wanna in? Just reply to this newsletter!
What about you? Any not so unexpected episodes this week?
📖 Currently reading:
Curious thing, I've stopped reading the books I was reading, (I'll come back for them later), and began:
The invisible life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab.
Feminists don't wear pink (and other lies) by Scarlett Curtis. (Each day I read at least a chapter. Ever chapter is written by different women from different areas of expertise, and they share their points of view on life, feminism, vulvas, work, manifestation, religion, and art. It's as good as it sounds).
What to do when going through some emotional spin? Just listen to Taylor's albums: Folklore, Evermore, Fearless (Taylor's version).
It will give you the chills, it will make you feel tears, even cry them off. It will invite you to dance around the house like a witch around the fire and under the Moon. It will invite you to question if you need that cardigan, if you are the cardigan, if you are using one right now and where are your stars. It will make you smile again, no matter if you are still in the dark.
But most importantly, it will make you feel understood and accompanied and, most of the times, that's the recipe for a broken and/or damaged heart.
PS. I'm getting that cardigan, want the pics?
👋 Hello from Buenos Aires City (FINALLY)!
Yes! After seven months of being away, I’m finally back! And, what was the first thing I did when I got off the car? I went to Starbucks. Funny and crazy thing, there are no Starbucks in Mar del Plata, so you go figure my abstinence.
So, here I am! With a Caramel Macchiato already in my system (and preparing myself for that second round), I'm inviting you all to play a game. Are you ready?
First thing first. Do you have a poetry book nearby? Go grab it!
Did you get it? Alright.
Let me ask you then, what's your mood today? What's been picking your mind like a song you can't get rid of? What's that question you are really afraid to ask out loud not because you are frightened of putting it into words but because of its possible answer?
Well, take a breath. Put that feeling (or feelings) into words, rephrase it as a question, and go to a random page of your poetry book. Let your pages move under your fingers and... STOP.
What's the poem? What does it say?
Now, grab your journal, or whatever you use to write, and write that poem down. Do you have your answer yet?
Although I read tarot sometimes, poetry helps me put into words those feelings I'm struggling with.
There's a popular saying that poetry is the closest thing we have to express our feelings, that's why sometimes it's so difficult and complicated to comprehend. Or even, one poem may awake some feelings in one person and other feelings in a different person, you never know how that poem is going to make an impact in your life.
So, here we are. Diving in our sh*t.
I don't know if this exercise had helped you, I hope it did. What I do know and I'd like to share with you, is that recently a person from my past jumped into my life and I was (I adore this expression because is so accurate) all over the place.
I read tarot, wrote disastrous things about it, still couldn't put my mind in order. Yesterday, I grabbed a poetry book, played with the pages and got my poem. It resonated with the situation and gave me some perspective.
What I mean is: I don't know if poetry is the closest thing we have to express and manifest our feelings. (Don't think so either). What I know is that sometimes we need perspective and art (whatever piece comes our way), this has a way of reflecting us like mirrors and putting "out there" something we didn't even want to acknowledge or confront.
What would life be without the purest expression of our soul (or whatever you believe in)?
Maybe only a bunch of forgettable episodes.
Here’s why you should write 100 words:
✨ Share your craft and turn it into something new. The opportunity is there, waiting for you to grab it.
✏️ Being afraid of writing without beginning the journey is just a block, you can overcome it. Go write the first 100 words that come to your mind and I promise you'll realize it's not that bad. And if it is, another 100 words are waiting to be written by you.
🔮 Turn moments and feeling into a piece of art. After all, that's what you are: art (and magic).
Still fighting against that writer’s block? Let me give you a hand. Remember that poem? Great! So, intervene it. Play with its words, with its rhythm and composition, change places, make it your own.
And if you are feeling inspired please share the original and your version of it and tag me @candiegraphie, I’d love to see the results!
